Autism neurotransmitter switching
new paper
New paper: Environmental factors drive transmitter switching causing autism-like behavior
Our work showing that prenatal immune activation drives GABA-to-glutamate switching in prefrontal cortex interneurons — and that this switch causally produces autism-like social and behavioral deficits in adult mice — is now published in PNAS. Critically, overriding the switch in neonates prevents the adult behavioral deficits. Read the paper ↗

Transsynaptic bridges
new paper
New paper: Postsynaptic receptors regulate presynaptic identity through transsynaptic bridges
We demonstrate that postsynaptic neurotransmitter receptors actively stabilize presynaptic transmitter identity through receptor-specific transsynaptic adhesion complexes — defining a new molecular mechanism for how transmitter-receptor pairs are specified and maintained at synapses. Published in PNAS. Read the paper ↗
